Failure of Outdoor Signage Design
Retail unrest can be a time for owners and managers of small and medium-sized shops.
Literally.
They need to get outside and look up at the heavens, in order to make sure that their storefront signage is working.
Today's smart retail marketing is all about creating memorable, talkable and satisfying Shopper Moments(tm). A great Moment starts with a keen eye for detail and flawless execution in retail signage design fundamentals. Even for something as simple as outdoor signage. Especially with outdoor retail signage design.
These six steps will ensure that your signage makes an excellent first impression.
1. 1.
What does your signage look like from a distance?
You may not be aware of how new businesses can take the spotlight from the sign you used to have. Walk or drive by the location from every angle. Is your sign visible from far away? Or does it require customers to be right there to see it? (If they drive by, it is too late.
2. Keep IT Clean.
Are your signs clean, current, and in good order?
Check to make sure your sign is working. A buzzing sign can turn potential customers away. It signals that the owners don't care.
3. COMMUNICATE EFFICIENTLY.
Is your sign clear?
Although it's nice to be creative, if the store name doesn't reflect your product mix or business, you might need a sub-title. A new place opened in my area called "Launderette". I was embarrassed to drop by with my dry cleans, since they offer gourmet pizzas.
4. ENTICE SHOPPERS.
Sandwich signs and chalkboard signs can be placed outside your store to promote seasonal sales, events, or special offers. You should check first with your local or mall zoning ordinances to ensure that you are not violating any rules regarding signs that inhibit traffic or block exits.
5. MAKE WINDOWS TRY HARDER.
To wow customers with store windows, you don't need to be at the Bloomingdale's flagship location. You can update them often with new signage design and visual stories that highlight seasonal merchandise and sales.
Place signage strategically on your windows to ensure that it does not block the view of the merchandise.
6. 6.
Is your store's phone number, hours of operation, social media accounts, and website URL clearly visible on the front door? Customers may stop by your store even if you are closed. This information will help you to capture their business in the future.
