The transport of goods is a vital role for many every ecommerce merchant and there is no company more prominent in the delivery business than UPS. PeC: UPS has just updated its"UPS Ready" program. What's that program and how can it help ecommerce merchants?

Colletta:"UPS Ready" enables third parties to incorporate UPS technology in their applications and sites so that they can make UPS accessible to the clients [such as ecommerce merchants] they function. This technology includes things like transport, tracking, generating tags, international shipments and much more, all without needing to go somewhere else to get it arrayed or to execute a transaction. The updates include paperless invoice capability when it comes to international shipments and something we call international yields, which allow returns to happen seamlessly so the return request and the associated documentation happen at the same time.

PeC: Is there an excess charge for the paperless bill and the international yield features?

Colletta: There is no cost paperless invoice. For international yields, we charge just for the return shipment itself.

PeC: How do an ecommerce merchant understand if a specific vendor or shopping cart is UPS Ready?

Colletta: UPS Ready participants typically display the UPS Ready branded logo on their website. There is also a list of accredited UPS Ready vendors at UPS.com.

PeC: Is there a fee to participate in the UPS Ready service?

Colletta: there's absolutely not any fee [payable] to UPS, but there's a third party that certifies a merchant's product to be certain that it is up to the perfect standard. That third party does have a fee for the certificate.

PeC: Can a merchant independently work directly with UPS for the benefits of UPS Ready or is your alternative only available by approved vendors?

Colletta: Merchants can go right to Ups.com to apply to the UPS Ready program and go through the process to become UPS Ready.

PeC: How long can that typically take?

Colletta: It depends on what the merchant will adopt. We've got some merchants that only require rating and tracking. We've got others who need everything. So nearly all the time it takes is your merchant considering their application, considering and working through the critical integration points that will bring the most value to their end user.

PeC: Anything else you want our readers to learn about UPS or the UPS Ready app?

Colletta: UPS has a wide range of participants, such as Zoovy, MonsterCommerce [currently Network Solutions], eBay, ProStores, Intuit, Yahoo!, NetSuite, Peachtree and ShipWorks. The UPS Ready program can help fortify a huge organization to improve its product, but it also can take a smaller ecommerce merchant and allow it to provide the sort of services and solutions that customers now expect from both large and small online retailers.
